SH45 Cycleway saftey improvements which need a video

Following on from the story about the Devon Street West Cycleway separators, there is an "instruction manual" video with the news item. (Click on the link below - 2 minutes long - and so worth a watch).

This is a summary of the absolutely crazy way these idealists who work at, and sit on the council, think.

They have built this new road system – which is meant to be so much safer for cyclists – yet they have to put out a video to explain how to use this new safe road. How on earth can that be safe if it’s not instinctive for people to keep safe by just getting in their car, or on their bike, and using it.

There are multiple instructions on what to do around rubbish trucks, rubbish bins and emergency vehicles. There is absolutely no way cyclists or drivers will behave in the way this video suggests they should.

Watching this insane way of thinking by the major projects and planning delivery manager Andrew Barron, and the Councillors who voted this in, absolutely no good can come to cyclists and cars with this road safety system that needs an instruction manual to go with it.

People – if you have a minute – watch the video – then let’s bombard the inbox at the Council with your feedback – don’t swear as they don’t count those e-mails – but let’s send lots of e-mails – or make a phone call – and give some straightforward feedback on how insane this decision is.

Please also e-mail this video to people you know - so our community understand how the people that work at the Council, and vote these things in, actually think.
